The first Monday of summer break and the schedule I created for myself was not utilized at all. Great start Kari SMH. I’m learning to give myself grace but seriously lol
Ok, so I’ll start over tomorrow. If you’re anything like me you are wondering what the heck to do with the kids all summer as well. I go through the stress of a summer plan and many to-do lists at the end of every school year, so why is it always such a task?
This morning Addison was up by 7 am (why???), she had turned on the tv which I yelled down the stairs for her to turn back off; so my am routine was shot to hell. Getting up before the kids to enjoy the silence of my home is my happy place and how I prefer to start the day. It’s not always realistic, I know. But on a Monday… it should be mandatory.
When school is in session, it’s easier to follow my routine, but with late nights and apparently early mornings ahead of me, I’m going to have to pivot.
I considered summer camp this year, but I can’t fathom paying $250 a week per kid for my kids to play from 9am - 3pm Mon - Friday. Ain’t happening! The twins are 10yrs old now so we’re going to have to make the most of sharing this space, day in and day out for the next couple of months.
Kudos to the moms who do have a plan set for the summer. Maybe you have your meals planned and your grocery lists written out for each week. Maybe you have play dates and picnics on the calendar. Vaca’s and day trips are already booked. I honestly have no clue what’s for dinner tonight, and Kaleb has already asked me that question (it’s currently 10:24 am).
I can admit it: I am winging it this summer. My career is in a transition and I feel that a lot of change is coming. Have you ever felt that? Like a shift is happening and you’re in the middle waiting and bracing yourself?
So no camps, no major plans, no special trips besides Kaleb’s basketball tournament in FL and I’m hoping to squeeze in our annual trip to VA beach. Our daily activities will consist of getting out of the house each day. No clue where we’ll go, local parks I assume. Other than that, it’ll just be me, the twins, and our rescue dog living it up and taking it one day at a time.
Slow rolling it this summer is the plan.
Dear Summer,
Be good to us. Spare us of the east coast humidity, and let the breeze linger on through August. Help me to keep the twins busy and active. I’d like to have cool summer fun ideas pop into my head so I can post our adventures on IG! I need slow mornings (for the love of God let these twins sleep in) so I can keep my summer schedule intact. I need to keep my Starbucks cravings at bay too; grocery store iced coffee is my new fav pick me up. I need beach day trips because that is the twins’ fav place. Mostly, Summer, I need memories. I can’t help but get saddened about how fast the twins are growing up. That’s the part about motherhood that we rarely talk about; how fast it goes by. How quickly they go from hanging on to our very existence to needing us less and less. Help me to cherish the memories and time I have left with them being kids. They will be 18 before I know it. Let’s make this one a good one shall we?
