I’m going to be real here and say that the book or Revelation was hard for me to grasp. The details, the creatures, the actions…all of them were very hard for me to visualize. The dragons and the 7 headed beasts, the angels, the environment. This is not doubt, just having trouble seeing it. Besides that I did have a couple of takeaways I will mention.
Revelation 1:3. It makes plain what we’ve all heard in the church time and time again: “Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophesy, and blessed are those who hear the words of this prophesy and keep what is written in it, because the time is near”. This scripture rings true to the fact that if we read and believe the word of God, that we will be blessed and Jesus’ return will happen in God’s perfect timing.
Revelation 1:8. “I am the Alpha and the Omega, says the the Lord God, the one who is, who was, and who is to come, the Almighty”. Another confirmation of the statement many of us believers have heard time and time again. I’ve heard this statement in books, scriptures, and songs. It’s nice to put the book to the words and make that connection. God is our past, our present, and our future. He is all things, He is everywhere, and He is everything. Worthy is His name!
Revelation 4:11. “Our Lord and God, you are worthy to receive glory and honor and power, because you have created all things, and by your will they exist and were created.” Blessing and honor belongs to God because He created every single thing that exists on this earth. His will will always be done. His plan, His timing, His purpose, His love. The creatures in Rev 4:8 sang continuously that He is holy, holy, holy Lord God, the Almighty, who was, who is, and who is to come. And whenever these creatures began to sing, the elders bowed down in worship. This is so amazing to me because we serve a God who did it all, and a God who isn’t done! There is so much to experience with God. So much more to do. All praise belongs to Him for that reason alone.
Revelation 7:14-17. In these verses it says their robes were washed and made white with the blood of the Lamb. The Lamb will shelter them. They will no longer hunger, nor thirst, and the sun will no longer strike them. The Lamb will guide them and God will wipe every tear from their eyes. Our salvation is at the foot of the throne of the Lamb. All we have to do is go to Him to receive it. He’s spelled out what He will do for us. Do we want it? Will we let Him in and accept our savior?
Revelation 19:11-16. Jesus comes into Heaven on a white horse. He is called Faithful and True. His name is written: King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Jesus enters the battle of the evil ones. He is mounted on his horse and in the middle of all the chaos He finally arrives to save the day. Isn’t that how it happens in our lives too? He always arrives in the nick of time. Just when we feel we can’t bear another minute of our pain or our hurt. He shows up. But He was there all along. Like when we teach out babies to walk. We are behind them the whole time, waiting for the exact moment when they need us to push them forward, give them a “come on baby, you got it, keep going”, or when we need to scoop them up to catch them when we fall. Like a good mother, and like a good Father…Jesus is there. When we need God to fight our battles. To step in. To take the lead, He is there. Every single time.
Revelation 21:3-7. God is doing a new thing. His dwelling is with humanity. He is with His people. It is done. He is the beginning and the end. The Alpha and the Omega. Although we don’t know what our days ahead hold for us, we do know the beginning and we know how this all will end when Jesus returns. So in the meantime, we have to hold true to the fact that God is writing our stories. His hand is on our lives and He is writing out every page in our books. We have to believe that in order to receive His goodness and mercy in our lives. I want to live in His presence and experience His blessings. Gods grace is here for us, and proof of His love is all around.
Although this book took my mind through a loop, the scriptures mentioned are comforting. These scriptures are the bigger picture. If you’re like me and need a deeper understanding, read the book in a different translation. I’m doing to do the same to pull out a bit more of the details. I pray that his book awakens a love for Jesus like you haven’t experienced yet. I pray that you study this book on your own and pull out what touches you. This reading allowed me to connect a lot of dots that had been left out in the open in my heart and so I’m thankful I finally read Revelation. The title is true: after reading this book I did experience a revelation of Gods eternal love for his people, of how the story is already written, and of how His grace is with us in every situation we face.
Because of Jesus, our story can go on and end with His mercy and love bouncing off the pages. A story of redemption and of miracles. A story of truth and faithfulness. A story of love.
